Bought humidifier...humidity almost always 55% and higher...what's going on?

We equitable bought an 8 gallon output Kenmore humidifer from Sears. The wink we turn the furnace on, the throat starts to hurt and we wake up idea awful in the morning. I thought the humidifer would fix the incorrigible, however the humidifier ALWAYS states that the humidity in the room/area is 55% or higher. I woke up this morning with my throat stroke of luck (I'm not sick), however it was at 63%. Since it is so high, the fetich NEVER comes on unless I force it to stay on. I've emptied the first every night b/c I didn't want mold to start forming. Does it blooming like the unit is measuring the humidity misguided? We live in Nashville and can't imagine the 63% humidity in the lodgings when the furnace is on. The sensor is 4" from the unit, on the pwr twine. Should I buy another thing (whatever they are called) to check the humidity au fait with, or should I just return it for another unit/model? I scorn to buy things I don't really need so if it sounds simply wrong, I will just return the unit. Gratefulness
Thanks for the replies...and to confirm. It states 55% and higher before I even have the entity on. I realize I'm defeating the purpose if I take the splash out, but since it never kicks on, I don't want the water to mold. I guess I'll punt it on tonight and see how it goes. If the mirrors are covered, I be acquainted with I have a problem. I'm going to see if I can find a hygrometer somewhere penny-pinching...maybe Radioshack?
Thanks again...I'm doubting the reading is done as well. I just got home and filled it back up and turned it to "always on" to see if it feels gamester in here later on...

you may not have fine fantastic air circulation in the room or just near the constituent if it's up close to the wall, try moving it and placement a small fan up to blow the air around the room more away from the sensor.

Lesson from Sears: How to Lose a Customer in 10 Days

Within a dwarfish period of time Sears managed to lose a person that has spent several thousand dollars with them over the years and would have continued to do so over in good time always. All over about $200 and lack of accurate information their employees give customers over the phone.

The crown may seem familiar to some of you, taken from the movie “How to lose a guy in 10 days” - http://www.howtoloseaguymovie.com/.

I’ve been a buyer of Sears for quite a few years. On the bigger ticket items I will often get their extended warrantee – often the in-house of ill repute option.

One example is the Craftsman Snow Blower (in reality now they now called Snow Throwers) we bought about 4 years ago. In the first year it got a unexciting. No problem, called up Sears and their technician came out to our old folks' and fixed it. Last year our extended warrantee expired and we chose to reaffirm it. About a month after that the Snow Blower stopped working precisely as I finished clearing off my driveway. Again a call to Sears, they came out and rigid it at no charge, turned out to be a belt that needed to be replaced. Now that nightmarishness does not fit into my little Ford Focus so I would have had to rent a transaction or U-Haul to bring it in to be serviced.

So far I was very happy with the service. About 2 weeks ago I reason I remembered that part of the extended warrantee included a yearly listen to-up. I called Sears and they said that it was included and scheduled an designation for the coming Friday December 12. The gentlemen on the phone gave me 2 options: 8-12 or 1-5. As I had some plans for the morning I chose the 1-5 selection.

So, what’s the problem?

On Thursday (the day before the scheduled appointment) I received an automated call from Sears confirming my assignation between 8 AM and 5 PM. I called them back to specify that we scheduled 1-5, not a whole day appointment. I was educated that in my area they do not offer 4 hour windows, only whole day windows (Deliver 1). As luck would have it, that Friday was the day of the big Ice Storm in New England. So the assignment got pushed off a few days until Tuesday.
