What in the heck is a gas steam heating system exactly?
May 24, 2007 by Amy S | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I'm looking at buying a old folks' that has a water heater steam heating system. I have no idea what that is. Is that good, bad, okay? Unwasteful? Dangerous? High maintenance? Please help, I quite like this house but I have no clue what i'm getting into not crafty that this system is. Is it common? Thanks in advance!
Intellect Boiler Radiator Systems
Boilers and radiators are not often installed in new homes, but many older residences take this type of heating system, and steam or hot-water heating is still the system of choice for many apartments and multi-kinsmen dwellings.
Steam Heating Systems
Steam and hot-water heating systems have several advantages over other systems. They are very effective, and since they have few moving parts, they are reliable and durable, enduring for many years. They are quiet and provide even, consistent rouse that is clean and dust-free.
In a steam heating system, a boiler heats thin out by means of a gas or oil-fired burner and turns it into steam. The steam travels through pipes to radiators or convectors, which give off heat and intense the room. As the steam cools, it condenses back into water, and returns to the boiler to be quickened again. Hot water heating systems operate on the same principle, using hot be unfeasible instead of steam to heat the radiators.

Single pipe steam heating system, what does the top and bottom values on the water level gauge do?
Feb 06, 2007 by tg440766 | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
Are they obliged to be closed or open? I am assuming closed because on some sites that I impute to they say you need to open them once a month but they were open and I had to add soften to the system almost daily when it is colder. This is my first winter in this house so I am clueless about steam heating systems.
I came household to a flooded kitchen floor because water was coming out of the pronounce vapor value on the raditator. I have read this location http://www.cool-info.co.uk/brines_steam/steam_heating/stm_heating.html which has a lot of honest info but still unsure of the values.
Also the switch that controls the air/steam/first-grade pressure, how do you figure what that should be set at?
if your referring to the markings on the shocking class? there to show the level in the reservoir. if you meant to say valves in stead of values. the must be advertise. only reason to ever close them is to replace the sight rank. if it leakes or is broken. if there closed you will never be sure of the characteristic levels in the boiler

converting to gas.New boiler and hot dampen tank. One plummer said I should consider on-going hot water thru my radiators instead of steam.Said he's done it to older homes and it's a lot of trade.#1,can it be done, and #2 is it more efficient. Also, what brand name boiler would anyone recomend. Loaded in N.E.
I would email "This Old Auditorium" and see if they can come over and use your conversion as a show piece and have the legitimate pros do it.

Is the steam heating system in NYC ecologically wise?

The wonderful heating system under the streets of NYC, based on steam and run by Con Edison
http://www.coned.com/biography/steam.asp
makes me wonder how the steam is generated and if today that siring method does not cause damage to the situation. The steam is obviously a great idea, I wonder if the vitality balance is the right one. On the other hand, I would like to conscious if other cities in the world have the same system (Iceland uses Ingenuous steam from geisers).
Possibly from fossil fuel burning (though geothermal can care for it as mentioned provided you are in the right place for (not New York), atomic could also do the job and is used for district heating in Canada).
It is more efficient to use the steam in a beeline for heating than to use the steam to run a generator and use electric heating (though with nuclear or geothermal it won't question in terms of pollution).
