what is cheaper to run? an electric garage heater or a natural gas garage heater?

I have a 3 car garage that I am planning to keep stormy this winter. which will be cheaper in the long run as far as energy costs. I have already insulated the garage and the doors.

Wow, I'm not worrisome to be argumentative, but at least in my area Electric heat is much cheaper than gas. In truly I'm getting ready to replace my 80,000 lp furnace with 18 KW of galvanizing.

I'm not sure what your per KW rate is in your area, but you definitely longing to measure out both types and do a calculation before you decide. Call your utility companies and ask them the rates per sober unit of energy that they charge.

As I said, here in Indiana, tenseness beats gas hands down.

garage heater options and advice?

I have a 24x24x8 garage, walls insulated-no sheetrock. Ceiling insulated, insulated doors.

My rely on is to be able to heat my garage so it is warm enough to do hobby employment, and play with my children.

In Massachusetts, so the temp can get fairly low. I might need to raise the temperature by 30 or 40 deg.

I stand in want the cost to be reasonable, for example, less than $300 preferably, unless there is a positive reason or advantage where I can justify it.

I do not have natural gas and do not want a 100lb LP tank surface.

It needs to be reasonably sized, for example maybe 2'x2' max. Under it would be portable so in the summer I can store it somewhere else.

So far in my research I am penchant towards a Kerosene heater, due to the size, price, btu's, portability, etc. I am not tried if there are any safety or legal concerns.

Propane might business, but I believe I have to run a line to the outside even with a 20lb tank legally and safely.

Thanks so much.
I have oil impassion, hydro air in the house.

The electric units, looking at them, basically all the ones you buy that are lightweight are 1500watts, is that going to be enough to heat this hugeness garage?

I bought a feel put down kerosene heater a few years ago when the natural gas line prevalent into the small town where I live froze. I needed to for the meantime heat my house (~2000 square feet).

After carefully studying the box for about a half hour at Bailiwick Depot I was amazed to learn that it DOES NOT want to be vented. Its a unit of less than 2feet wide x 2feet covet. It's a little taller than 2 feet excessive. Its white with a chrome colored cage. Might have been Lowes, but entertain the idea it was Home Depot... and I've seen it there again recently.

This inanimate object kicks out some SERIOUS HEAT. It will handily heat your garage. During our gas outage, I placed the module in the kitchen and it did a great job of heating the nearby kith and kin room too. It's an uneven heat, of undoubtedly, so the kitchen was like 80 degrees (within a few feet of the portion) and the family room 65-70.

There is also a wick that supposedly needs repetitive replacement. I've used the unit in my garage several times a year since for the life 4 years and have yet to replace the wick. I've seen the replacement wicks at Domestic Depot for about $10 or so.

Keresene is running about $3.50 a gallon where I active. You'll have to find a gas station that supplies it, and get yourself a 5 gallon dejected keresene container. A single filling of the component (which is probably a gallon or two) will keep the unit going for many hours... say 6 to 8. Remorseful I dont have more precise figures on this.

When doing a bulge out in the garage in the winter, I will typically fire the unit up a half hour before of time. Then the garage is toasty warm. On a number of occasions I have had to open the garage door a crack to premeditated the room down some. Very happy with this heater and its nice to have as a backup heater for the domicile too.

Good luck.

Dangit! The propane garage heater we're all huddled around just exploded and burned all the hair off?

of one side of our faces.
So.. i suspect what im asking is...
should we do comb-overs?

dogs, or concourse urchins?

Natural gas garage heater efficiency?

Does anyone have any goal of how much gas a 75,000 btu ceiling mounted heater would use if on for approx 10 hours a week? I'm good wondering if a large tank could last for a winter. My expert in is heated with natural gas, but all the lines are on the opposite side of the company. Any ideas?

First of all you mentioned a "tank" therefore you must importance of propane C3H8, Natural Gas is methane, CH4, anyways 75,000 btu's converts to 75 cfh if you are using reasonable gas.
Therefore if you pay by the gigajoule or by the 1000 cubit feet
if your heater ran for 1 hour it would outlay you 75/1000 times your cost of gas.
for instance if you are paying $5.00 a thousand feet for gas it would take 15 hours to use up 1000 feet of gas.
So over a month it could become certainly expensive.
Most people have their thermostats in the garage set just above polar to prohibit rusting and to save money.
recognize you heater will not run for the full hour every hour, once heated up to temperature it will only separate on spratically.
Hope this helps.

Price of gas today on community market $7.825/1000cfh

Smell of water heater fumes/vapors in garage and room above garage when water heater runs, any suggestions?

Principled moved into a new home and I smell fumes or vapors when the H heater runs in the garage. The fumes/vapors are in the garage and in the room above the garage. The plumber who installed system checked the pipe (it goes into the wall then up to the roof) and says there is nothing blocking it. Any suggestions>

Call your neighbourhood utility company many of them offer free inspection if not get a encourage opinion..
