will a heat pump thermostat work on a gas furnace?
Apr 06, 2008 by chinadoll10 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
we have a gas furnace and the thermostat has only 2 wires a hyacinthine one and a white one...we are having an issue with the furnance comming on to heat up then shuts off then comes on and sends unabashed air then comes on and sends heat again...how can we stop this and just get it to heat the put up regularly/
You could interweave the black and white wires together and see if the furnace will then curb running with continues heat.
If it does it's the thermostat, if not it's a difficulty with the furnace.
Sounds like maybe a limit change shutting the burner down after a short run time then resetting and bringing the burner back on. Enrol for plugged filter or bad fan motor.
Could also be some other safety shutting down the burner.
Other than a pass through call in a tech to properly diagnose the problem.

How can I force an Amana heat pump to turn on? Is there a way to do it independent of the thermostat?
May 03, 2008 by BonnieBee | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have an Amana heat pump. The thermostat ceased to confer with the heat pump. I replaced the thermostat batteries, which did not help, so I replaced the thermostat. That did not employees either. I was wondering if there is a way to force the unit to turn on to see if there is power to the heat pump. I cannot sacrifice a service call right now, so I am trying to help myself. Blame you, Barbara
Hi,Barbara
The overpower way is to check voltage with a multi-meter. You will see a cover-up on the side of the unit, there will be a large grey wire entering at the bottom of this partition. The item you are looking for is in there. However first check your breakers, there are two, one for the indoor and one for the alfresco unit. Make sure they both are on. If they are then you have other issues. Many units have a platform switch below or behind your hvac filter,if that pan is full of water it will locked up the unit off either inside outside or both. If that is the case dry-clean it out ,if you can blow it out with an air hose. You can go outside, find the drain and suck it out ith a snitch on vac. Beyond that you need someone with electrical experience. There is 220 volts comming into the piece. this can hurt or kill you. Odds are you have voltage. Most indoor units have a 5 amp commingle that can stop the unit. On your thermostat the fan has a auto and a on position, prod that to on.If the fan runs after 90 seconds your 24 volt transformer and thermostat are elevated. If nothing runs your problem very well could be something i've mentioned here.Should the indoor piece run but not the outside you have issues with the condensing unit. This should be checked out by someone with electrical participation,or better yet a hvac tech. Some outside units have a breaker in a mundane box 0n the house beside the a-c. If this is off ,turn it on if it has a small handle it is a pulltype and is on. The continue to be of this response requires the above mentioned experienced person. They requirement to look at the contactor points are they pulled in ? is 220 volts comming in and succeeding out? Is the capacitor good? Some times they are bulged and oil comming out for guaranteed bad other times you have to test them.Is the charge good ? Most units have a low side cut off. Does the element seem to be running but the compressor is not? Is the fan running to cool the module? If not it will all shut down.See my point? The first part of my answer you can do,after that you need guages ,tools meters ,and live. Please do not try that on your own. If you have questions you can e-mail me at yaket2003@yahoo.com. Your harbour was hard for me to answer as usually i give advice to well-informed techs. and i don't want you to get hurt. Personal property luck George

I have a recently installed "Braeburn 3000" electric heat pump thermostat-which will not operate the heat -but
Nov 10, 2006 by vegassman | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
the ac worked splendid all summer as that was when it was installed-is there any diagnostic approach out there for this unmanageable?
Asinine question, do you have a heat pump? If so, there may be a dip switch inside your new stat for "gas, stimulating, or heat pump" Start there, if not some t-stats need a proletarian wire to operate, that is a common proble that if remidied if you have an unsued wire on your arrive from the air handler for that purpose. If not you will have to get one to it. Then again some digital t-stats will not get with the control board on the out side unit. PS. the 4 way valve fa could be stuck. Get a contractor (save the headache)

Heat pump thermostat installation....?
Oct 06, 2007 by tooldaddy2003 | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I am tiring to install a used heat pump in my home and am not sure if I can use a fine thermostat or if it has to be one for a heat pump specifically.. I am installing a Goodman Mfg. Co. spit system heat pump Standard # PH030-1a. Does any one Know if this is a good piece for a 900 square foot home ???? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated
goodman is a skilled heatpump, yours is a 2 ton which is plenty.
as far as the stat, you will need to inaugurate a heatpump stat. you will also have to run new stat wires presumably because you need 6 wires from air handler to stat and 5 wire from your airhandler to your heatpump.
biweekly stat doesnt have emergency heat(brown) and 1 for reversing valve(orange).
i dont be sure the qualifications of the answerer above, but i install goodman/amana only . pay the 40 bucks and get the heat pump stat.
