yes you privation a 2 stage heat pump thermostat. First stage is your condenser and 2 acting is the electric heat. One stage cooling as well

what is the difference in a package air condition unit and a package unit heat pump?
Sep 23, 2008 by Linda M | Posted in Engineering
We necessity to install central heat and air and don't know the difference between these products
Cut out
A heat pump is a popular style of air conditioner which has the capability to heat with the refrigeration D as well as to cool with it. The biggest differences are the refrigerant reversing valve, a defrost put into the limelight and the dual -action room thermostat occupied in and with the A/C heat pump. The functions of the evaporator and the condenser are swapped so that heat is removed from the surface air and released through the inside coil..
Depending on the city temperature, a heat pump will heat without the need of supplemental heating be it electrical guerrilla heaters built into the unit or auxiliary gas or oil-fired heaters. Its coeficient of behaviour will be around 3 to 1 when heat is begun to be needed , but will diminish with colder ill. I would not recommended anything but an available heat pump in moderate climates because of the frankness of the installation and the low energy heating capability for the many remote days during which there are few temperatures below about 25F. Even then, the heat pump will be performing well until about 15 F. Supplemental heating (stimulating, gas, oil) will be needed , but the heat pump will have delayed that need and done so with a power scraping in the meanwhile. The same might be said even for colder climates because most of the time the low temperatures are still occurring a low proportion of the time.
If gas is a less expensive heating medium than tension, then a combination of systems could be recommended.
If gas is really less dear than electric power for the whole year, perhaps more of the gas -heating / gas- fired absorption coolers will be made at one's fingertips.
Some people do not like a heat pump because they have been used to hot air blowing out the grilles while fervid air is discharged by the heat pump.

Package Heat Pump Electricial Question?
Nov 05, 2008 by Ken W | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a package 3 ton Goodman Heat pump with elec aux heating strips that I am installing in my territory. I have an existing 3 ton unit that I installed used. My mystery is this, what kinda wiring do I need to run the first 220 compressor and fan? And other to run the aux heat strips?
I have it hooked up about 15 feet from the breaker box with 10/2 wiring and I was told this is malign? I want to run the new unit about 35 feet from the breaker box wiring ideas? Thanks
This is a wrap up package "all in one" outside unit. I was told that I should use 6/2 wire or 8/2 dont advised of if I need to for safety or not?
As the other flier said there should be a nameplate on the unit showing the amp rating for it and the aux stimulating heater package that was added most likely wires on its own. It should also have a nameplate.
Get suggestion from a qualified electrician armed with that info.

Is there an outside package unit heat pump with 2 ton capacity?
Aug 18, 2008 by vpiegr | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Do any manufactures baby an outside package unit (not split) that is 2 tons power and has the multi speed compressor and variable fan. I was told that there is not one made in this grudging capacity. I would like a natural gas emergency heater package as well. I may have to tangible with just a heat pump and multi speed compressor and fan (no NG back up) or even moral a single stage heat pump as low as 2 tons. It is hard to get message from the manufactures. I looked at the Carrier web page and found the 50XT crow's-foot. It seam that they might have one.
Are there any multi stage units present in 2 tone units.

BAIRD makes one,and as far as the ng back up,thats garden place in the south.also try ruud,
rheem, goodman&, trane theres more out there than you suppose.don't settle for anything less than what you want, mitsibushi has come out w/a new dustless sys, heat pump,no ng back up.

Can I install heat strips on a HEIL package system, myself?
Jan 09, 2008 by ANDREA | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a Heil copy # papa60gas package system without heat pump or heat strips. I would like to know if it would be gentle for us to install the heat strips ourselves.
You stated that this is a gas package segment. Electric heat strips can be added to straight cooling package units and heat pump package units but not gas package units. There will be no space within the section and no manufacturer approved way of installing electric heat within the piece. I am assuming you have no natural gas service as that would be more efficient than using stimulating heat. If you really want to add electric heat you would need to have an stimulating duct heater installed which would be separate from the package item. Adding electric heat will significantly increase the electrical confines capacity requirements. You would almost certainly need a larger border breaker and thicker wires to carry the additional amperage. I do not allow that model # that you listed however it does not fit with their nomenclature for gas package units. Heil units that start with PA are simple cooling package units. In any case, if you add electric heat you will want much more electrical capacity and should consult a professional to dote on sure you have the proper wire size, thoroughgoing connections and proper circuit breaker volume.
