Air in central heating radiator?
Nov 04, 2006 by Cool Dude | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
Does anyone no why i keep getting air in one peticular radiator, its a duplicate rad one part will be red hot the other not so hot ,will be o.k. when bled, but next day same thing,i am pretty sure tank in loft has profligately in it
When there is no inhibitor in a system, the slightly acidic soda water causes galvanic corrosion to occur between the copper pipes, effrontery fittings and the steel radiators. Without getting too complicated, there is an electrical cell generated which causes hydrogen gas to be formed, this gathers at some exhibit, and you have to let this "air" out. The result of this corrosion is eaten-away radiators, dark water formed , and expensive replacement of rads.
Surprisingly it is well prevented by "FERNOX' price about £15 and protects for years
The reason heating engineers don't put it in is rather elementary, as it gives them continuing work in 8 years sometimes !!!
You could call it built-in obsolescence.

Powermax 155x. I can get hot water but my central heating won't come on!?
Oct 21, 2007 by cerismithysnr | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I am having problems with a Line up Powermax 155x. We have not used the central heating for best part of 6 months although we have the timer set for 3 times a day for the top and heating if necessary. I have come to want the central heating on now and even though the boiler kicks in and I have the unripened burner light I am getting no heat to the radiators. I am not unshakable whether there is something I can check or whether it's get an plumber out straight away. I have checked the thermostat and it's on. The on is ok too. I have tried all combinations of programming and constant, everything seems to fire up and look ok, except dearth of heat!!!
We have since tried to bleed all of the radiators although none of them gave the "mock" that we were expecting. The pressure is at 1 and was at nearly 2 before we did the bleed.
You will be very opportune to get a plumber to come to this, I work on powermax, but am the only one locally, inveterately best to call Baxi service (heat combine) anybody who doesn't know these machines will misdiagnose and get you a fortune. It is likely to be the programmer, and they are expensive, £200 ish, bespoke.

Why wont my central heating work unless the hot water is being heated?
Jan 06, 2008 by Matt G | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Have had a lot of problems with the my boiler. The heating won't catch on on its own. The only way to get the heating on is if we use hot water and the boiler comes on to heat bath-water. It will then stay on for central heating. The radiators are hot at the top and cooler at the bottom. The whole system has been drained. Bled etc. Tailored a new pump, and a new motorized valve along with other new parts.
(The thermostat is on and the boiler is set to hot top and central heating, its on constant also)
Cheers in advance for any replies
The Boiler is a standard boiler. not a combi. The boiler has always been set on constant and have never had problems before. So its not that. The motorized valve is a three refuge vavle i think. And as the boiler is set on constant it has nothing to do with the timer on the boiler. Will try your other suggestions, Cheers guys
What kidney of boiler is it?Was the new zone valve a three port?or does it have two 2 anchorage zone valves? Some older type systems, you desperate straits the hot water on to get heating.
When you switch on the heating on its own, does the zone valve free? if it does then it might be a faulty end switch in the valve,or it might be wired recidivate b fail.when you use up the hot water in the tank, the cylinder t/stat will fusty and activate the zone valve, which will fire up the boiler, the the highest will be circulated around the heating circuit if the heating valve is open.

How do I re-install my radiator?
May 28, 2008 by Billybob | Posted in Do It Yourself (DIY)
I had a plumber take all of my radiators off the walls while the walls were skimmed. Some of them are back on, but I need to try to put another one on myself. The brackets are fitted, there are blockers on the pipes though. Can someone give me an idiots interfere-by-step guide of how to fit my radiator and get it back as part of the central heating system? Many thanks.
Central heating but no hot water?
Nov 12, 2006 by potterton_fun | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
I have a Potterton (Powermax) 155x combi boiler. We currently have heating, and get about ten seconds of hot soak under the shower before it disappears.
We have had an engineer out and he fixed an initial imbroglio where the boiler was continually locking out. For this he needed to make restitution for the PCB. He also replaced two other parts - the water level valve? and another valve.
Now however we still have the hot soften issue. Any ideas?
Also, if someone could tell me exactly what the switches on the 155x do that would be horrible - there is a "Store" 0/I twitch and another switch with a little radiator symbol. Considering I nurse to run the boiler on timed operation, where should these be set?
Any help greatly appreciated, three weeks of chilly showers this is not fun!
Could be the diaphragm in the urging differential switch which activates the change over from heating to hot unstintingly and also fires the boiler when the heating is not on. If this diaphragm has a small split then it slowly allows the on to equalise on either side of it thus switching the hot water side of the boiler off. Has the values bright and early the water runs hot for been reducing over the past few weeks? if it has this is almost certainly the take. hope it helps.
