Whats the purpose of an air cleaner on an engine?
Dec 11, 2007 by voodoochild158xi | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Hi I was wondering whats the target of an air cleaner and does it increase power? Also does it as usual require hood modifications?
P.S - I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT AN AIR Screen. I AM TALKING ABOUT THE AIR CLEANERS YOU SEE ON TOP OF AN ENGINE THAT STICK OUT
HERE IS A Carbon copy OF WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT -

The air cleaner and air drip are the same - they perform the same thing by separating the impurities( sand - dust etc.) from entering the multifarious and mixes with the fuel for better combustion. Impurities will occasion fouling -rough idle etc.

Anyone know how to put a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner on a 1989 Caprice?
Jan 23, 2008 by Kev | Posted in Chevrolet
I got a 1989 Chevy Caprice 5.0 with T.B.I. My mechanic told me all I had to do was put the Edelbrock air cleaner on, but when I took the old one off, I had to disengage a hose, a wire (i believe its to the air cleaner temp sensor), and the breather winnow. Any ideas?
Yeah, there are holes you can drill out, I maintain they're for the air cleaner temp sensor.. but I don't grasp what to do about the hose that was there and the filter. Im thinking maybe I won't lack the filter seeing as how this air cleaner is open.. Maybe the other one needed one because it was barrel enclosed?
square sure you have right air filter there should be opening for your sensors etc with out these mechanism will always be on cold start and run

will a better air cleaner help get better gas mileage?
May 05, 2008 by snavelz_package | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
1981 231 cu in V6 buick 2bl carb. short of to put a 14x3 round chrome edelbrock air cleaner in place of the factory one will this be crap-shooter on gas since it would get more air into the engine? i already have chrome edelbrock valve covers on this appliance so even if it doesnt help mpg it will look good thanksss!
You will patently get better gas mileage, no matter how
small when you use a new air cleaner. A 14" air cleaner
is even healthier and sure will look good.

installing a chrome engine dress up kit 79 chrysler cordoba?
Sep 12, 2007 by hatinnicwhy | Posted in Chrysler
I hope for to install a chrome engine dress up kit for a 79 chrysler cordoba 318 2bbl v8 from jc whitney the kit comes with valve covers and a unembellished chrome air cleaner for the carb..heres the problem my car has a lean light system and the factory air cleaner has some sort of open hole for the air intake and the mill valve covers, one side has a hole for the pcv valve and the other valve eiderdown for a oil breather valve but then it also has some sort of cover that connects the valve shield to the air cleaner?can this engine dress up kit work for my car? and also is that electric box thats hooked up to the air cleaner that has the words electronic start up system able to be moved out of the way for installation of the after market air cleaner
the car is also a familiar driver with alot of mods 1979 chrysler cordoba-Louis vuitton accented corinthean up-country,custom paint,20 inch rims ,flowmasters ,131 db sense that system and custom front end/grill and body work.Hid brilliant system just wanted to have a engine that matched
I have done this with my '79, so yes it will exertion. Although my car is a 360 four barrel, the external engine volume is identical. The black box on the stock air cleaner is the "Electronic Enkindle Advance" computer. It replaced the more well known "Scraggy Burn" as the ignition/fuel running system. Since you will be disconnecting and discarding the ESA due to the air cleaner change, another ignition system must be installed to make good on it - if someone has not already done so. I used a Mopar Performance electronic ignition system-still at for about 200.00. This will not hurt anything.
The chrome valve covers fit open on. However on my car, the vacuum amplifier bracket was attached to the principled side value cover which I cut off the stock cover and screwed into the chrome wrapper. I sealed the screw holes with gasket sealer.
I do not skilled in exactly what you are referring to regarding the cover connecting the value cleaner to the crankcase breather. There is a hose from the breather which connects to a apropos on the air cleaner. This hose allows the crankcase to vent into the carburetor during off the target open throttle conditions when the engine vacuum-operated PCV cannot aim. I do like the chrome effect even if it does require more be fond of and maintenance. Good luck!

How to gauge value of vintage Corvette part?
Dec 16, 2007 by kelso1991 | Posted in Chevrolet
No ebay or google searches part to similar part.
1965-1967 original chrome Air cleaner assembly.
Want to put across, but value is unknown.
I would go to the fore and list it on ebay, if you just want to see what people are amenable to pay. Put a high reserve and you will be able to see what people will pay. If you in fact want to sell it just list it with no available and there is a ton of corvette guru's that will bid and i'm steady it will sell for what it is worth or perhaps even more. Good luck!
